          Date 2026: Sunday, September 27

Course: Flat, fast, and set in the heart of Berlin. Widely regarded as the fastest marathon course in the world and one of the six Abbott World Marathon Majors.

What this means for your shoe choice: The flat course is ideal for carbon-plated super shoes such as the Nike Alphafly, Nike Vaporfly, adidas Adizero Adios Pro, or Saucony Endorphin Elite, helping maximize energy return in your pursuit of a personal record (PR). Pair them with a daily trainer for your final taper runs leading up to race day.

Race Week Checklist (link to products):

          1. Race-day super shoe

          2. Race socks

          3. Gels and hydration products

          4. Lightweight technical apparel

September in Berlin typically offers ideal running conditions, with cool and comfortable temperatures for racing.

Frequent Questions about the Berlin Marathon:

Which carbon shoes for the Berlin Marathon?

Because the course is flat and fast, carbon super shoes are used to the fullest: Nike Alphafly 3 and Vaporfly, adidas Adizero Adios Pro or Evo SL, Saucony Endorphin Elite. They are ideal if you are chasing time and have trained with them.

Why is Berlin considered the fastest marathon?

The course is almost completely flat, with straights and minimal turns, at low altitude. That is why most marathon world records have been broken there. It is the ultimate race for personal bests.

When is the Berlin Marathon 2026?

The BMW Berlin Marathon 2026 takes place on Sunday, September 27, 2026, in the center of Berlin.

How do I choose a super shoe for a PR?

Look for a carbon plate, a high foam stack with high energy return and low weight. Most importantly: try it out on tempo and long runs before the race. The right super shoe is the one that fits your foot and stride, not just the most expensive one.

What to wear for a September marathon?

September in Berlin is usually cool and ideal for running. Opt for a light, breathable tech singlet or t-shirt, shorts, and a cheap throwaway layer for before the start that you will throw away at the first kilometer.
